As reported by the presidential press service, during the weekly meetings with the Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis the President pointed out: while working on the resolution of the migration crisis and making a joint contribution to the security of the EU, we should not forget about responsibilities to streamline the border of their country.
The strengthening of the Eastern border of Latvia is the issue of security of Latvia and the EU, stressed Vejonis, urging to exert every effort for the strengthening of the Eastern borders.
The President stressed the need to stabilize the situation in crisis-affected regions so that refugees can return home. To resolve the migration crisis needs a comprehensive solution to internal security of the EU, exchange of information and cooperation of the security services, he said.
During the meeting the President and Prime Minister also discussed preparations for the upcoming Latvia in July the Warsaw NATO summit.
