The Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis said that the strike group led by the aircraft carrier "Carl Vinson" is currently set in the Western part of the Pacific ocean.
Carrier — part of the "Armada," which, according to the erroneous statement trump, "went to North Korea" last week.
However, as it turned out, at the time of speech trump the ships were sent to the other side for joint exercises with Australia.
Commenting on the confusion, the Pentagon chief said: "We're doing exactly what, as we said, are going to do. They will go to the destination".
"And I'll let you know when they get there and when you start to act," added Mattis.
Confusion with the movement of American warships began on 9 April, when the U.S. Navy announced that carrier strike group headed by the "Carl Vinson" is sent from Singapore to the Western part of the Pacific ocean.
Two days later, trump said in an interview with the TV channel Fox that the United States send "a very powerful Armada" in the direction of the Korean Peninsula.
His words caused a violent reaction in East Asia, where it is suspected that the US is preparing for preemptive strike on North Korea.
However, it turned out that the ships went not to the North, to the sea of Japan, and in the other direction to Australia for planned exercises with the Australian military.
The U.S. Navy published a photo dated 15 April, where the carrier follows through Sunda Strait into the Indian ocean.
At a briefing on Wednesday, press Secretary of the White house Sean Spicer said that Donald trump did not enter anyone astray.
"The President said that we have an Armada heading for the [Korean] Peninsula, ' said Spicer. It is a fact, it happened or rather is happening".
According to the correspondent Bi-bi-si in Seoul Stephen Evans, it is unclear whether the confusion is the result of a deliberate deception — perhaps to scare North Korean leader — a change of plans or a simple misunderstanding.
The DPRK and the United States in recent days have done to address each other a number of extremely sharp statements. North Korea has warned that it would respond to a possible nuclear strike by the United States own shot. The US President Donald trump with his hand again promised to "solve the problem" of the DPRK.
In early March, the DPRK launched four ballistic missiles, calling it a rehearsal for attack on the American bases in Japan. The launch triggered international condemnation, the US and Japan demanded to convene the UN Security Council.
Three missiles fell into the sea in the exclusive economic zone of Japan. Donald trump said that in the region there is a "new level of threat".
The North Korean leader Kim Jong-UN has announced that the country will soon experience an Intercontinental ballistic missile, which experts called a potential threat to the United States.
