Kuchinskis stressed that NATO is the cornerstone of security of Latvia. Stoltenberg, in turn, commended the Latvian decision on increasing the budget for defense.

The sides discussed the security situation in the Baltic region and in the forthcoming June NATO summit in Warsaw. Kuchinskis has declared, that for Latvia it is important that the summit decisions were made about emergency and long-term presence of NATO forces in the Baltic region.

They also discussed issues such as strengthening cooperation between NATO and the EU, against the threat of hybrid war.

Kuchinskis and Stoltenberg met in Brussels, where the Prime Minister of Latvia participates in summit of the European Council.
