Criminal liability will now occur if the wage in excess of 10 minimum monthly salaries are not reflected in accounting documents, informs BNS with reference to the press service of the Seimas. The employer may be punished by imprisonment for the term up to two years of forced labour, a fine, deprivation of the right to engage in commercial activity for a specified period or a prohibition to hold certain positions for up to three years.

Responsible for paying salaries "in envelope" in less than 10 minimum wages regulates the Code of administrative violations.

The press service of the Seimas notes that the law previously allowed to punish the employer for such violations on the fact of tax evasion. However, it is expected that the new norm will increase the effectiveness of combating the problem, as the payment of salaries in "envelopes" is easier to prove.
