Containerized cargo is one of the most rapidly growing types of cargo in the port of Riga, and this trend has been observed for a long time. Although the volume of liquid cargoes during 4 months of the year fell by 30% on the total turnover of the Freeport of Riga is influenced only slightly, the decline was only 0,3%.

In just the first 4 months of 2017 through the Riga free port had handled over 12 million tons of cargo.

The increase in turnover is observed not only in the segment of containerized cargo. Good performance from the beginning of the year the port of Riga has for transshipment of coal, which increased by 16% compared to the same period in 2016. A significant increase occurred in the segment of grain products — more than 10%.

Also significantly increased and the quantity of the served port passengers — this year, there were already 200 thousand people, which is 35% higher than a year earlier. Besides, April is considered the beginning of the tourist season, and this month Riga have already visited two cruise ships that brought in the Latvian capital of about 2,500 passengers.
