On Sunday, in an interview with the REN TV channel, Lavrov said that Russia has information that Turkish troops are trying to gain a foothold "in a few hundred meters from the border" on Syrian territory.
"Requiring to avoid any strengthening of the Kurdish parties in Syria, Turkey began to assert its sovereign right to create any security zone on Syrian territory. According to our data, they are already digging a few hundred meters from the border inside Syria," he said.
Lavrov called it "creeping expansion".
Turkey has previously accused the movement of troops to Syria, but Ankara called these reports false.
