August 7, when the tragedy occurred, on the Lithuanian beach in Nemirseta hung red flags prohibiting entering the water. In the afternoon, it was reported that in the sea drowned the boy. Even before arrival of rescuers the adults rushed in search of him: the people used rope to anyone not swept into the sea. To help also called for a helicopter. While some searched for the child in the water, the others were viewing the surface from the air. The boy's body was found in the evening: the sea threw it on the shore.
On the same day in the Baltic sea sea Nemirseta drowned man and the boy. Witness the tragic incident on the Lithuanian seaside and the rescuers were shocked by the behavior of some travelers: when on the beach lay the bodies of two drowned men, and continued the rescue work, people as if nothing had happened with the children went in the water.
An eyewitness to the death of 45-year-old man and his 12-year-old son was a resident of Palanga Algimantas Bluskis. According to Bluskis, he and his wife were walking along the sea, and saw a man walked into the water, suddenly bent down, pulled from the water boy and carried him to shore. Man accidentally saw lying at the bottom of the child.
Came vacationers and Bluskis reported the accident by calling 112. Since a kilometer sank two more children, doctors said the exact location of the incident. The boy tried to bring a sense of vacationing on the beach the doctor-resuscitator. After some time ashore he ran to the woman. She began to ask where her husband is, she is looking for him for half an hour. It turned out that water got her son.
The first on a scene there have arrived rescuers, then the doctors. After some time out of the water took the body of boy's father. "The mother was on the shore and saw what was happening. The doctors gave her medicine. The worst began when the doctors stated the death of a child. Some people went swimming, others sunbathing, others were watching, clapping a hand over his head. In broad daylight on the shore, at a distance of one hundred meters from each other lie the bodies of drowned and no one can do until the place the police are not coming. It's terrible," said Bluskis. Returning along the sea home, an eyewitness several times urged parents to take children out of the water.
"It is difficult to endure, is the third day, but it is before the eyes, especially scary, that children suffer. Their parents don't warn you do not explain what might happen and they die. This is the worst," said lifeguard Ricardas Corpus.
"112 operators told us ambiguous information, pointed in two different directions, it has complicated our work, but we chose the right direction and arrived. It turned out that at the same time pulled people in two different places, in those areas there is no exact coordinates," said Corpus.
Lithuanian rescuer, too, was shocked by the behavior of others. "Drowned when a child with his father, near 200 metres, the water comes to a family with small children two and four years, on warning do not react. Don't know what they have in mind, see what happened misfortune, are carried out rescue work, and it did not seem to regard", — he was surprised.
According to Corpus, this year the sea is not very rough, but the summer is coming to an end, people rush to enjoy the good weather. The biggest problems start in August, especially when the wind picks up.
"Everyone wants one last time to enter the sea. Slip up, and when wave 3 and more points, we raise a red flag, it's actually dangerous, there are currents," said Corpus.
"Imagine: a red flag, swimming is strictly forbidden, you let go of your child? I'm not. I can't understand those parents who allow it. Every day from the sea, sending hundreds of people call for order and children. And people say nothing, they look and see. Then we try to explain that the wave washes away instantly", — was indignant the head of the rescue Jonas Veronicas.
By law children can't swim without an adult, even when the sea is calm. But the people this rule is not observed. "When misfortune happens, people do not understand the situation, comment on it, blame the service. By law, if hanging red flag, in other countries, the lifeguards are going, close your positions and go home. And we remain, although not obligated to do so. And we're risking our lives, we're going to save the territory for which we did not respond because there is nothing more precious than human life", — said Peronies.
This year Palanga lifeguards on the beaches of Palanga and Šventoji saved 14 people.
