The working group of the IAAF under the leadership of rune Andersen has for several months watched how the reform of wfla, and came to the conclusion that Russia is not yet able to fulfill all of the criteria for restoration of its membership in the international Federation.

It is expected that the final question of the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic games 2016 will be decided in may at a special meeting of the Board, said the Agency TASS wfla General Secretary Mikhail Butov. The Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro will be held from 5 to 21 August.

The IAAF suspended wfla from all competitions under its aegis on the basis of the report of the head of the independent Commission of the world anti-doping Agency (WADA) dick pound. In it Russia was accused of multiple violations anti-doping rules, and in respect of a number of officials and athletes were charged.

A few days ago, the pound said that Russia most likely will not be able to send their athletes for the summer Olympics in 2016 due to the ongoing problems with doping in the country. According to him, Russia is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic and waiting to take off sanctions.

President of the European athletics Association (EAA) Svein Arne Hansen has previously expressed fears that Russia will simply not manage to fulfill all the requirements necessary to restore the membership of wfla.

Reuters, in turn, cited the statement by the Minister of sports of Russia Vitaly Mutko, who said that "the point of no return" for the performance of the Russians in Rio mid-July.
