MES has prepared and submitted to the Cabinet an information report on the progressive transfer of secondary education in the state language to ensure that all children in Latvia are equal opportunities for obtaining quality education.

According to a 2016 survey, 39% of young people Normanist speak the Latvian language very well, 39% good, 22% — on the main level, or weak. In the 2013/2014 academic year graduation graduation examinations in the Latvian language passed 76% in the 2016/2017 school year — already 92% of graduates of schools of national minorities.

Transfer to study in state language stipulates that in General education, centralized examinations only state language will be carried out with the 2017/2018 school year in the 9th grade with the academic year 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 school year in high school all academic subjects will be taught in the Latvian language, except the languages of national minorities, literature and items related to culture and history.
