During the talks the Minister has mentioned three potential areas for development of cooperation with Azerbaijan – the development of Eurasian transport corridors, aviation and communication industry. Regarding rail transport, it was stressed that in recent years Latvia in this area there was a particularly successful cooperation in the framework of the transit corridor East–West. For example, last year was successfully organized container train from China to Latvia, while this year has already started shipping from Latvia to China.
Strengthening cooperation in the field of railway transport is important, as Azerbaijan's territory crosses the international transport corridor North–South and corridor Europe–Caucasus–Asia, which is part of the New silk road. In turn, the development of the corridor North–South envisages the creation of a rail route between Iran, India and the Baltic States, said U. augulis.
In conclusion of the meeting, the parties recognized that the goals of both countries in the fields of transport, logistics and communication close, which also contributes to further expansion of cooperation in the framework of the development of the Eurasian transport sector.
