The earthquake occurred 30 km southwest of Halabja in Iraqi Kurdistan, near the northeastern border with Iran. The epicenter was at a depth of 33.9 km away, the tremors were felt in Turkey, Israel and Kuwait.

In the West of Iran earthquake victims were more than 300 people in the Iraqi province of Sulaymaniyah — around 40 people. Without housing there are approximately 70 thousand Iranians, reports RIA "Novosti" citing a source in the Iranian Red Crescent.
