On Smolensk square noted that these commemorative events were the obvious propaganda and the glorification of those involved in mass crimes against humanity committed by the Nazis and their henchmen during the Second world war. "This action again took place with the connivance of the Latvian authorities with the participation of MPs from the ruling coalition", — stated in the Russian foreign Ministry.

"Against this background, a cause for serious alarm took systematic harassment by the authorities in the Latvian anti-fascist non-governmental organizations, including by, in fact, the fabrication of criminal cases, as happened with the Chairman of the Latvian anti-Nazi Committee A.
