As reported in the Cabinet, among these areas the Prime Minister named cooperation in the field of border protection, immigration and customs areas, in the sphere of transport, culture and the arts. Kuchinskis also noted that today, on Latvian-Russian relations affects international environment.

The head of government welcomed the implementation of the program of frontier cooperation of Latvia and Russia for the years 2014-2020, within which to develop economic cooperation of regions in the business, in the areas of environmental protection and cross-border mobility. A positive assessment of the Prime Minister has given and the process of demarcation of state borders between the countries, which officially is scheduled for completion in October this year.

The Prime Minister also welcomed the fact that after a nearly four-year hiatus, organized the meeting of the Latvian-Russian intergovernmental Commission. Latvia considers it a useful format for bilateral cooperation, which can be constructive to discuss specific issues. In conclusion Kuchinskis wished intergovernmental Commission of successful work.

7-meeting of the Latvian-Russian intergovernmental Commission, which will discuss the past work and future cooperation, will be held on Tuesday, August 15, the Ministry of the message.

From the Latvian side it will involve co-chair, Minister of transport Uldis augulis and his Deputy, state Secretary, Ministry of foreign Affairs Andrei Pildegovics. On the Russian side the meeting will be headed by Minister of transport Maxim Sokolov.

At the meeting the Commission will discuss the four blocks of cooperation — economic, regional, transport and humanitarian issues.

The previous meeting of the Latvian-Russian intergovernmental Commission was held in November 2013 in Moscow.
