Performance by the guitarist of U2 was part of a protest to draw attention to the fight against cancer. A musician himself last month lost due to this illness of his father, and his daughter successfully recovered.

"When I was asked to be the first modern artist who performed in the Sistine chapel, at first I did not know what to say, because we usually sing the other guy," he told edge, referring to the U2 soloist Bono.

Edge played and sang four songs - three from the repertoire of U2 ("Yahweh", "Ordinary love" and "Walk on"), and "If it be your will" by Leonard Cohen. Together with him was made by a choir of six Irish adolescents.

The musician thanked Pope Francis for permission to use for performances of "the most beautiful Church hall in the world." He called Francis "the people's Pope" and expressed the hope that more will have time to make this post.
